A Coastal Path
We followed the path above the sea
that was hidden by summer fog.
On the cliffs the sun was blazing
and we came upon two lines of laundry
hung on either side of the path
where it circled a large stone house.
A woman waved and asked us in.
She showed us the view from the windows
where the fog still held the coast and the sea.
She spoke to us about marriage
and love and offered tea.
We said yes, we had these things.
She said we should be careful
and treasure this love like a path.
Her eyes were the colour of fog
and as we left the day was clear.
